Nurses up for top awards

Carrie Wilson of Bonnybridge is in the running for the adult student nurse of the year, while Robert Murray of Falkirk has been shortlisted in two categories - outstanding contribution to student affairs and student nurse of the year in mental health.

Both Carrie and Robert are students at the University of Stirling.

Robert (28) said: “The NHS and nursing get a lot of flak; applying for these awards is really important because we as nurses need to be proud of what we achieve. The majority of nurses work incredibly hard, and do an incredibly good job.

“Applying for these awards is also a way of thanking those people who have educated and supported me.”

Carrie (20) said: “I am shocked and overjoyed to be shortlisted as a finalist for adult student nurse of the year. I love being a student nurse and the experience it has brought. I am passionate about nursing and I am hoping to specialise in the field of palliative care.”

Professor Jayne Donaldson, Head of School of Health Sciences at Stirling University added: “We are extremely proud of our students and wish them every success in the final.

“They are a credit to the nursing profession and to the teaching staff and mentors who support and encourage them.”

The awards ceremony takes place in London on April 28.
