Construction work has started on a new social housing development for Tamfourhill – but locals won’t see much for a while.

The Carrick Place development will offer sixteen one and two-bedroom cottage flats plus four three-bedroom, semi-detached homes for social rent.

Glasgow construction and manufacturing company CCG is building the houses in an offsite manufacturing facility in Cambuslang and they will be transported to site for final assembly.

The company says this significantly reduces build time, improves environmental efficiency and minimises waste.

This approach has been used in a range of projects across Scotland.

A spokesperson for social housing landlords Weslo Housing Management Ltd said: “We’ve been actively trying to get some much needed social housing on this site for seven years and are absolutely thrilled that we have now made a start.

“The houses incorporate ‘Silver Standard’ energy specification, including photovoltaic solar panels which will ensure minimum running costs for our tenants.”

In finally getting to this stage, we are grateful of course, for the support received and encouragement received from Falkirk Council and the grant assistance from the Scottish Government.”
