The resurrected Slamannan and Limerigg Gala Day was scheduled to take place this Saturday in Blinkbonny Park, however, the coronavirus pandemic inevitably put paid to that plan.

To ensure the children involved in the retinue still have as memorable a day as possible, the gala committee has organised a social-distancing friendly car procession instead.

Leaving from Limerigg Primary at 11am, the youngsters will then tour both villages where residents are encouraged to put flags out and take to their gardens to wave and cheer.

Though popular activities such as the Children’s Day races and pram race won’t be returning for the first time in over 20 years, the team behind the gala are hopeful the community will still turn out to show support – while following lockdown guidelines.

Treasurer Bev Kane said: “It’s absolutely devastating for us and the children so we’re just trying to do something to mark the day.

“We as a committee are as disappointed as the children that it won’t be going ahead.

“If there’s any chance we can still do something this year it would still happen but we’ll be back bigger, better and stronger next year.”
