Motorway accident: Man reported after two-vehicle M876 crash leaves pensioner in hospital

A man is to be reported in connection with a road accident on the M876 which left a pensioner needing hospital treatment for 'serious injuries'.

The 36-year-old will be charged with road traffic offences following the two-car accident near Larbert yesterday afternoon, which resulted in a Land Rover overturning and a 73-year-old man being taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

The M876 was closed northbound between Junctions 1 and 2 for more than five hours as emergency services attended the scene.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A 36-year-old man will be reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with road traffic offences following a two-vehicle collision on the M876 near Larbert.

“The incident happened around 2.50pm on Monday, September 3 when a Land Rover and a Mercedes van collided just north of Junction 1.

“A 73-year-old man was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital with serious injuries which are not life-threatening.

“The road was closed until around 8.15pm for accident investigations and clearance to take place. The public are thanked for their patience.”
