Our Group of the Week in last week’s edition for East Stirlingshire Angling Club brought memories flooding back for Wilma McCudden, a Bairn born and bred.

Her father John Prentice, who passed away 20 years ago was a keen angler and member of the club for many years, as well as being a staunch supporter of the football team East Stirlingshire FC.

Wilma said: “When I saw the picture of the angling club in last week’s paper I knew I had an old one with my dad in it somewhere so I decided to look it out.

“My dad was a meter reader for the gas board and must have been about 40 in the picture. I don’t know anyone else except my uncle Joe Stewart, who is just to his left.

“My dad loved his fishing. He would do overnight fishing and bring fish home for the dinner. I’ve ate trout all my life.”
