Jean Sneddon (79) is celebrating her diamond anniversary with husband William (82) today (Thursday) at their home in Hallglen Terrace, Glen Village.

The couple first set eyes on each other at the Shieldhill dancing in the 1950s and, as fate would have it, went on to work together at a local brickworks. They were married in Erskine Church on February 11, 1956.

The couple went on to have a daughter and over the years their family grew to include three grand children and four great grandchildren.

Jean admitted she had married the right man and that was part of the secret of their long and happy marriage.

She said: “We’ve had our arguments at times, but we always get there in the end. I don’t think I would be as lucky to get anyone as good as him the second time around. As our grandchildren will tell you, he’s the one of the best.”

Family is important to Jean and William, who both enjoy bowling, and they will be present when the couple officially mark their milestone anniversary with a party a the Three Kings later this month.

It’s a double celebration for Jean, who turns 80 on March 9.
