Man charged with buying teenage girl drink

Police say the man, from Grangemouth, had been approached when he was walking his dog and asked to buy drink from a nearby shop, which he allegedly agreed to.

The girl’s family raised concerns with police on March 25 in regards to the incident and the man has now been charged for an offence under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

PC Dickson of the Grangemouth Community Police Team said: “All too often, acts of disorder and anti-social behaviour are committed by persons under the influence of alcohol. Licensing laws are designed to prevent young people from obtaining alcohol before the age of 18.

“It should also be recognised that young people are exposed to risk when consuming alcohol outwith any supervision or control.

“That is why we regularly engage with shopkeepers and staff to increase awareness of adults buying drink on behalf of others and take action against those who commit offences.

“Should any member of the public be approached and asked to buy alcohol on behalf of underage persons, they should simply refuse and report the matter to shop staff and to police.”
