Maddiston & Rumford Local History Group is holding a slide show tomorrow (Friday) in Maddiston Community Centre from 7 to 10 p.m. It concentrates on the area from Rumford and Craigs through Greenwells past the Blocks to Manuelrigg. It will look at the new school and the demoliton of the old building. No charge will be made for the slide show, but donations are welcome for the refreshments. All welcome.
Last Sunday, morning service was conducted by Mrs Amanda McQuarrie. During the intimations a warm welcome was given to Mrs Jacqueline Dignan who was our Organist for the service. This Sunday the service in Muiravonside Parish Church will commence at the usual time of 11.30 a.m. and will be conducted by the Rev. Louise McClements. The Sunday Club meets at the same time. The Christmas Fayre takes place in Whitecross on Saturday, November 29 at 11 a.m. Tea tickets can be obtained from Mrs Mary Usher, or you can pay at the door that morning. The ‘Santa Drive’ takes place on Thursday, December 11 starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are £2 for Adults, and £1.50 for children. Tea/coffee, shortbread, and mince pies at the interval. Please note, Amanda’s last service with you takes place on Sunday, November 30. So, why not make that special effort to come along and give her a memorable send off.
Maddiston Old Folks Association will be holding a Christmas dinner on Tuesday, December 16. The hall will only be open on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 25 and 26 from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. to buy tickets. Cost £5 per person.
Entertainment returns to the club on Saturday, November 29, when the group, Cheap Whisky, performs from 8 p.m. till late. The event is in aid of the Support Our Soldiers charity and tickets, priced £3, are available from Tam Forsyth or Zander. There will be no entry on the night without a ticket and further information is available at the bar. Meanwhile, a domino competition continues every Sunday afternoon at the Manuelrigg Premises when a Coo Pie can be won.
Events and activities on at Maddiston Community Centre for today and the next week include: Today (Thursday) the Citizens Advice will hold a drop-in 10 a.m.– noon; the Giggles Toddles meet 12.30–2.30 p.m. the Kempo Ju-Jitsu club is on 7–9 p.m.; On Friday the Credit Union will be open 10 a.m.–12noon and the Community Café is also open 8.45 a.m.–1.30 p.m. and the Maddiston and Rumford Local History Group will be holding a slide show showing the old villages of Rumford and Maddiston from 7–10 p.m.; On Monday the Personal Development Class is on 9.30–11.30 a.m. (call (01324) 720960 for information; On Tuesday the Giggles Group will meet 9.30–11.30 a.m.; On Wednesday the Child-minding Group meets 9.30–11.30 a.m. and a Fast Track I.T class is being held 9.30–11.30 a.m. (call (01324) 501696 for information). We also have an IT suite for public use for internet access, email access, filling in online forms, job searches, homework and printing/copying. The 1st Reddingmuirhead Girls’ Brigade are holding their annual Coffee Afternoon on Sunday, November 23 in the Community Centre in Reddingmuirhead to raise funds for the company. Entry is £2 per person and all are welcome to join us. Come along and enjoy goods from the gift stall, freshly made crepes, face painting, bottle stall, etc. Any donations of baking, good as new gifts or bottles for the bottle stall will be gratefully received. Breakfast With Santa
This popular event returns this year and is being held on Saturday, December 6 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Methodist Church in Reddingmuirhead. This is to raise funds for the church. Tickets are £5 and adults will get two hot rolls, tea/coffee and mince pies and children receive one hot roll, juice, activities to do and a gift from Santa. A very warm welcome awaits you at Maddiston Salvation Army. Sunday Worship is at 10.30 a.m. in the Salvation Army Centre, Main Street, Maddiston. The weekly programme is as follows - Tuesday: Lunch Club 12.30 p.m (two course meal plus tea/coffee and biscuits for £3, everyone welcome); Ladies Meeting 2 p.m.; Kids Club (5–12 years old) 5.30 p.m. Thursday: Parent and Toddlers 9.30 a.m,; Prayer and Bible Study 6 pm. We are always looking to develop our programme and are looking for volunteers. This is our 132nd Anniversary Weekend, November 22/23. Special Guest is Major John Houston. On Saturday, November 22 at 7 p.m. will be a Musical Programme led by Shotts Songsters, followed by refreshments. There is no charge for the concert, but an offering will be taken towards the work of the Salvation Army. Everyone is welcome.
The Youth Club is on Friday from 7.30 to 9 p.m. in Maddiston Community Centre. All S1-6 welcome. Sunday services start at 10 a.m. with communion. The family service will start at 11.30 a.m. when the guest speaker will be Martin Jones from Falkirk. Children and young teens can leave the service and go into their own groups at noon - Discovery Group Extra, Creche and Youth Bible Group. The evening service is at 6.30 p.m. when Bible teaching will be given by Sandy Roger from Coatbridge who will speak on ‘Three Friends in a Fiery Furnace’ Daniel chapter 3. The parent and toddler group will meet on Monday at 9.30 a.m. The Discovery Group meets at 6.30 p.m. Men’s Fellowship will be on Tuesday at 2.15 p.m. when the speaker will be Harvey Stalker from Edinburgh. The prayer meeting will take place on Wednesday at 7.30 p.m.
