The theme reflected on at last Sunday’s service, referring to the visual aid paintings, was “Burdens shared”. All are welcome to Sunday morning worship on April 20, at 10 a.m. when Easter will be celebrated. Holy Week services for the rest of this week are today (Thursday), Brightons Church (Maundy Thursday, Communion), and tomorrow (Friday), Muiravonside Church (Good Friday), both services at 7 p.m. On door duty this Sunday are M. Ferguson, J. Currie, P. Ferguson and W. Daye. On tea duty are M. Pullar, M. Erskine, M. Hoggan and M. Brown. The flowers for this service are being donated by Margaret Thomson. There is a prize for the best caption or word bubble suggestion for the minister’s photo, Entries are £1 for the refurbishment fund. The closing date is Easter Sunday. Blackbraes and Shieldhill Church celebrates its 150th anniversary this year and has invited us to join them on Friday, April 25, at 7.30 p.m. for a concert with the duo ‘Vangel’, tickets £6 including supper. Then on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. for a coffee morning and/or lunch with displays and entertainment. All welcome. Holy Communion will be celebrated in Laurieston on Sunday, April 27, at 10 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. Members are reminded of the Strawberry Fair Lunch on May 25.
There will be a Gospel Meeting on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Cotton Lane Gospel Hall. Tea and biscuits will be served afterwards. Everyone is very welcome. No Saturday night ministry meeting will take place dut to this being the Easter holiday weekend.
The evening walks have recommenced on Wednesdays. Just turn up at Laurieston Square for 7 p.m. and and enjoy a walk around the south paths. Walks are led by experienced walk leaders and we suggest that suitable footwear and clothing be worn. For further details contact Ian Wright on (01324) 636799.
A new flute band has started in Laurieston and is looking for fluters and drummers. We meet on a Monday and a Wednesday from 8-10 p.m. in Laurieston Community Hall. On April 26 the band will be holding a blue night in the hall from 8 p.m. until late with a loyalist singer. Tickets are priced at £5 each and can be bought at the door on the day.
Laurieston Spiritualist Church will have Victor Collins from St Andrews as guest medium for its service in the Old Folks Welfare Hall in Mary Street on Monday, April 21. Doors open 6.45 p.m., service starts 7.30 p.m. Everyone welcome.
