Vale of Carron Rotary Club President Jill Dewar welcomed members and a contingent of visitors from the Rotary Club of South Queensferry to the Plough Hotel, Stenhousemuir. After getting to know each other and exchanging ideas Vale of Carron members were encouraged to consider taking part in next year’s charity abseil down the Forth Rail Bridge. Following a delicious meal and one or two items of business the first round of the Rotary District 1020 Quiz took place under the direction of question master Ron Melville. South Queensferry ran out winners by 16 points to 15 after a close fought and enjoyable contest. The Dobbie Hall car boot sale takes place every Wednesday from 8.30 a.m. till noon and pitches cost £6 for one and £9 for two. Tables are available for anyone wishing to make some money from unwanted items and all money raised benefits the Hall Trust. For hall and pitch bookings call (01324) 570450.
A meeting of the above takes place every Friday in Larbert Old Church Hall at 8 p.m. The meetings allow people to share experiences and gain advice on coping with family members suffering from alcoholism. Bingo continues on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. The club is available for hire to accommodate birthday parties, weddings etc and further information is available by calling the club after 6 p.m. on (01324) 552685.
Larbert East Playgroup has vacancies for new members. The playgroup is for children of two years, six months and upwards and runs on Tuesday to Friday at Larbert East Church from 9.20-11 a.m. There is also a Monday Twos club from 9.30-11 a.m. and a Toddlers Group goes ahead on a Wednesday from 9.30-11 a.m. Anyone interested in joining any of these groups will be welcomed at the church at the above times.
The club meets in the games hall at Larbert High School every Monday between 8.15-9 p.m.
Toddlers, Tots and Twos meets at Larbert Pentecostal Church in Broomage Avenue continues every Thursday. The facility is for 0-3 year olds and has a dedicated baby corner. Sweet Harmony Barbershop Chorus meets for practice every Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. in Larbert East Church Hall (Kirk Wynd) when new members will be made most welcome. President Ronnie Laing welcomed members, visiting Rotarians from the Grangemouth and Linlithgow and Bo’ness clubs and guest John Mortimer to last Wednesday’s meeting at Carmuirs Golf Club. After dinner, several business matters were discussed and then the first round tie of the Rotary District Quiz took place. With Quizmaster Colin Mailer in the chair, the two clubs, Larbert and Linlithgow and Bo’ness went head to head in a battle of wits that saw the teams jostling for position by providing answers to some difficult and often obscure questions. After a closely fought tie, the Linlithgow team pulled away in the final round, ending up as worthy winners by 18 points to 10. After an enjoyable evening of fellowship, Martin Nicol gave the vote of thanks. Next week’s speaker is Stewart Comrie. The service on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. will be conducted by Rev. Dr Campbell Campbell-Jack. Creche and Sunday Club facilities for all children. Refreshments and fellowship in the hall after the service. This is suitable for everyone from 1 to 101, as individuals, families and friends and consists of a time of fun and games followed by a brief service of worship and culminating with a meal for all. The Kirk Session is holding a Congregational Conference in the Church hall on Saturday, from 10 a.m. till noon when we will seek your views on the way forward for Larbert East Church over the coming years. On Wednesday, September 10 the lodge opened the season by conferring the Mark Master Mason degree on seven candidates. The mark team were in fine form showing a good balance of humour for the early part and decorum for the latter part of the degree. On Friday, September 19 the lodge will travel to Lodge Corkerhill 1426 and confer the Mark Master Mason degree. A bus has been organised, names to the secretary if you wish to travel.

The service on Sunday is at 11.15 a.m. and will be led by Rev. Bill Denholm. The Young Church (Sunday School) meet during the service and new members are always welcome. Lively walks in Larbert are full of friendly faces, who enjoy the scenery on serveral different routes around this area. Every Tuesday, 10.30 a.m. we leave from FVRH, where there is a choice of an hour walk, or a slower walk (average 30 minutes) both finishing in the cafe afterwords. Also a Friday 10.30 a.m. walk, leaving from Stenhousemuir shopping centre, again you can join a slower 30 minute (average) walk or brisker 1hr walk, where you can meet everyone in the cafe after your walk.
