Car Boot

The Dobbie Hall car boot sale takes place every Wednesday from 8.30 a.m. till noon and pitches cost £6 for one and £9 for two. Tables are available for anyone wishing to make some money from unwanted items and all money raised benefits the Hall Trust. For hall and pitch bookings call (01324) 570450.

Al Anon

A meeting of the above takes place every Friday in Larbert Old Church Hall at 8 p.m. The group also meets in Grahamston United Church, Falkirk, on Monday evenings at the same time. For a local contact number call 0141 339 8884.

North Broomage

Bingo continues on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. The club is available for hire to accommodate birthday parties, weddings etc and further information is available by calling the club after 6 p.m. on (01324) 552685.

East Playgroup

Larbert East Playgroup has vacancies for new members. The Playgroup is for children of two years, six months and upwards and runs on Tuesday through to Friday at Larbert East Church from 9.20-11 a.m. There is also a Monday Twos club from 9.30-11 a.m. and a Toddlers Group goes ahead on a Wednesday from 9.30-11 a.m. Anyone interested in joining any of these groups will be welcomed at the church at the above times.

Badminton Club

The club meets in the games hall at Larbert High School every Monday between 8.15-9 p.m.

Toddler Group

Toddler, Tots and Twos meets at Larbert Pentecostal Church in Broomage Avenue every Thursday. The facility is for 0-3 year olds and has a dedicated baby corner. Aerobics Class

Ochilview Bar

Tonight, Thursday, the quiz goes on as usual in the lounge of the former Warriors Club at 8 p.m. Entry is £1 and winning team takes all. The Play Your Cards Right game also features on the same evening.

Barbershop Singing

Sweet Harmony Barbershop Chorus meets for practice every Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. in Larbert East Church Hall (Kirk Wynd) when new members will be made most welcome. Larbert Bowling

Members should note that the AGM will be held in the club on Wednesday, February 11, when a good turnout would be appreciated. Balance sheets are currently available for collection at the bar, which is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the off season. Meanwhile, the club would be happy to accommodate new members and information is available at the bar. Cash bingo goes ahead every Monday at 7.30 p.m. in the club’s Pretoria Road premises.

Walking Football

Stenhousemuir F.C. Community Development Director, Jamie Kirk, would be delighted to hear from anyone over 50 wishing to enjoy a new initiative at the club. Walking Football goes ahead at Ochilview every Monday morning at 10.a.m. and given that running with the ball is out of bounds it is ideal for those who feel they would benefit from a gentler form of the game as well as enjoying the social aspect. Race Night

Stenhousemuir Bowling Club is holding a fund raising Race Night on Friday, February 20, at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are £3 and a buffet is included. Those wishing to purchase horses, priced £5, and tickets can do so at the bar. The AGM will be held on Monday, February 16, at 7 p.m. prompt. The club would be delighted to welcome new members at the Church Street green and forms are available at the bar. The entry fee has been reduced to half price at the current time.

Prize Bingo

Isabel Mawhinnie would like her friends in Larbert and Stenhousemuir to be aware that she is running a Prize Bingo in the Ochiltree Club in Camelon tomorrow, Friday, January 30 at 7.30 p.m. The event is in support of Mariner’s Day funds and entry is £1. Players should bring along a cup.

Quiz Night

Stenhousemuir F.C. is holding a quiz night in the Ormond Suite at the Ochilview stand on Friday, February 6, when doors open at 7 p.m. Entry is £20 for teams of four, but lesser numbers can go along and link up with others to form a team. The prize is £100 and various prizes are to be won in a raffle midway through the evening when sandwiches will also be available. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated during the service on Sunday at 11.15 a.m. The worship will be conducted by Rev. Bill Thomson. The Young Church (Sunday School) meet during the service and new members are always welcome. The Ladies Group meet in the hall on Monday evening at 7.30 p.m. This will be a party night with Alan and John. The service on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. will be conducted by Rev. Dr Campbell Campbell-Jack. Creche and Sunday Club facilities for all children. Refreshments and fellowship in the hall after the service. All welcome. On Wednesday at 1 p.m. the Prayer Group meet in the lesser hall and at 7.30 p.m. there is meeting of the Kirk Session.

Larbert, Stenhousemuir & Torwood Community Council’s first 2015 meeting will take place on Monday, January 26 at 7.15 p.m. in the halls of Larbert Old Church. Tryst Community Church will meet on Sunday, January 25 in the Tryst Community Centre, Park Drive, Stenhousemuir at 10 a.m. for Worship & Bible Teaching followed by tea/coffee. Larbert East

During the morning service last Sunday, Finlay Robert Hanlon and Jack William Hanlon, twin sons of Bob and Emma Hanlon were welcomed into the family of the Church through Holy Baptism. On Sunday, the morning service is at 10.30 a.m. led by Rev. Melville Crosthwaite and Mrs Anne White. The Young Church meets in the halls before the service and crèche is held in the Session Room. Afterwards, tea/coffee and biscuits will be available in the hall and the Traidcraft Stall will also be there. On Monday, the Banner Group meet in the Session Room at 2.30 p.m. All welcome. There is a sale of children’s clothes held in the Upper Room on a Thursday morning from 9.15-10.45 a.m. Enter through the church hall back door. Weekday Worship is at 11.15 a.m. also on a Thursday morning, this is a short service and you will be made most welcome.

Lodge Carron

The Lodge held the first meeting in 2015 when the fellow craft degree was conferred on one candidate on Wednesday, January 14. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 28 and will be an Entered Apprentice degree. The Lodge will tyle at 7.30 p.m.

Larbert Rotary

President Ronnie Laing welcomed members to last Wednesday’s meeting at Carmuirs Golf Club. Preparations were made to provide support to the two Larbert High School pupils, Murphy Chappell and Callum Robertson, the club has sponsored to take part in the Rotary Young Chef competition. They will take part in the district final to be held on January 31. After dinner, Grant Alexander introduced Past President Martin Nicol who regaled his audience with the tales of Eddie Chapman. After posing the question of whether Chapman was a hero or villain, Martin told the story of Chapman’s life that saw him serve as a soldier, serve time in prison, meet Hitler and inherit huge amounts of money. Andrew Gillespie gave the vote of thanks.

Ladies Forum

The vice president welcomed everyone to the meeting on January 13 and welcomed the speaker for the afternoon, Geoff Bailey, who gave a very interesting presentation entitled ‘The Tram System on the Circular Route’ which was enjoyed by everyone. Next meeting is in the Age Concern Hall on Tuesday, January 27 at 2.30 p.m. and is a talk on the Maggie’s Centre.

Zumba Classes

Zumba Gold with Carol at the Dobbie Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays 11-11.45 a.m. Zumba with Carol at the Dobbie Hall on Thursdays 7-8 p.m. and Carrongrange School on Tuesdays 7-8 p.m.

Carron Rotary

The Rotary Club of Vale of Carron met on Wednesday evening upstairs at the Plough Hotel, Stenhousemuir. After an enjoyable meal President Jill Dewar welcomed members and guest Rotarian Ian Rule PHF, a past district governor and trustee of Rotary Jaipur Limbs. Ian was able to tell us about the life-changing work carried out at the Bangalore Mega Limb Camp 2014. We examined demonstration feet and legs as well as a mechanical hand. From drainpipes and other basic materials, skilled doctors, technicians and volunteers made well-fitting limbs giving mobility and a means to earn a living at no cost to the recipient. Following some questioning past president Jean Geddes proposed the vote of thanks for a moving and enlightening presentation. Grace Church

Services this coming Sunday in Carrongrange School are at 10.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. This is our annual Stewardship Sunday when we will be giving information regarding the church financial status. Grace Kids meet during the morning service. The weekly Prayer Meeting will be held on Thursday, January 29 at 7.45 p.m. in the Dawson Mission. All are warmly invited to these services. Alzheimer Scotland Drop In Café

A drop in café is open every Sunday 12.30-2.30 p.m. at The Maples, 33 Johnston Avenue, Stenhousemuir for those affected by dementia and their carers. It’s a friendly, informal group and gives everyone the opportunity to meet others and have a chat over a cuppa. All welcome.

Alzheimer Scotland Garden Club

Gardening/DIY club every Monday and Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to noon for people with dementia. This small group offers people the opportunity to maintain their interests and skills in the garden at The Maples, 33 Johnston Avenue, Stenhousemuir.
