The deadline for nominations for community councils has been extended after half failed to get enough members.

Blackness, Bonnybridge, Camelon, Bantaksine and Tamfourhill, Carron and Carronshore, Falkirk Central, Grangemouth, Langlees, Bainsford and New Carron, Lower Braes, Polmont, Slamannan and Limerigg and Whitecross all received fewer than two thirds of the number of positions available - with eight having no nominations at all.

Falkirk Council’s executive committee decided last week to re-open nominations until October 31.

In the other ares – Airth, Banknock, Bo’ness, Maddiston, Avonbridge, Brightons, Denny, Falkirk South, Grahamston, Larbert, Reddingmuirhead and Shieldhill – enough applications were received and no new nominations will be accepted.

Falkirk Council chief executive Mary Pitcaithly said: “Some of these places have never had community councils, while others are very long-standing and I think that they might just have missed the deadline.”
