Marking July 24 in spectacular fashion this year will be the volunteers who support the Samaritans charity.

Signifying that the confidential helpline is there for people 24/7, it has become a regular diary date on the 24th day of the seventh month.

However, this year members of the Falkirk and Central Scotland branch will be releasing 247 green balloons outside their Orchard Street premises in Falkirk at 8pm on Sunday. Joining them for the occasion will be Provost Pat Reid.

Then it will be down to the Helix and a chance to see the Kelpies lit up green to mark the important day.

This year is the 51st anniversary of the local branch
and members are delighted that the iconic landmark will be joining in their celebrations.

There are currently around 60 volunteers in the branch and you can find out more about what that entails on their website at www.samaritans.org.
