A day to celebrate that most endangered of retail outlets '“ the independent record store '“ will be rocking and rolling at a venue near you next month.

Unfortunately there are no record stores in Falkirk anymore, so local acts like Crashing Jets have to commute through to the City of Stirling to help Europa Music celebrate Independent Record Store Day on Saturday, April 16.

The popular Friar Street shop, the largest vinyl record store in Scotland, will play host to Falkirk’s punky grunge Jets and a wide range of other exciting live acts on the day.

Ewen Duncan, Europa owner, said: “Independent Record Store Day is an annual, worldwide event which highlights local independent record stores and encourages people to use them – this will be our ninth year participating in the celebrations.

“We will also be marking our 40th year in November, having started off in Alloa in 1976, moved to Stirling in 1992 and settling in Friars Street in 1995.”

As well as the Crashing Jets, this year’s line up includes blues rockers the GT Boos Band, jazzy outfit The Humours, blues duo The Craig Hughes Two, rapper Be Charlotte, rockabilly pair The Bikini Bottoms, rootsy Dave’s New Bike and busker Struan Garry.

As a bonus, world renowned six-stringers Martin Simpson and Martin Taylor – who are playing the city’s Tolbooth – will be strumming up business with their new Records Store Day single.
