Investment boost for Larbert firm

It will bank over £450,000 towards the cost of a new bakery and sausage production centre at its Larbert site.

The cash comes from a £3.7 million investment ‘pot’ for the food and drink industry which was announced yesterday (Wednesday) by cabinet secretary Richard Lochhead.

Company director Gordon Allan said: “This will allow us to complete the final phase of the relocation of Malcolm Allan from Tamfourhill. We intend to create a state-of-the-art bakery which will increase our pie production and allow us to move into new markets in England. It will also protect our existing workforce and, looking ahead, we’re hoping could even create more jobs.”

Work on the new facility is expected to start next month and be completed by mid-November – just in time for the Christmas and New Year rush.

The firm, established 62 years ago by Malcolm Allan, employs over 180 people at the Central Business Park. Its Lorne sausage is a market leader and its steak pies are also award winners.

Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson said: “Malcolm Allan is a major employer in the Falkirk area and this latest grant from the Scottish Government which will enable them to expand their operation and safeguard their workforce is good news for the company and the area.

“I have worked closely with the company over a number of years and delighted to see this local family business continue to expand as demand for their products grow.”
