Ineos to build cars '“ just not in Grangemouth

However, the £100 million factory to build a brand new 4x4 off road vehicle will not be coming to Grangemouth, where Ineos has its petrochemical complex.

Following the completion of a six-month feasibility study, the company confirmed it will go ahead with the plant at a location in the UK or Europe.

The automotive project is the brainchild of Ineos founder Jim Ratcliffe, who is an admirer of the original Land Rover Defender.

He said: “It will not be a replica of the Defender but will reflect its philosophy. The target market is global and includes agriculture and forestry workers, explorers and adventurers as well as those who enjoy an authentic 4×4 driving experience.”

The firm was in the news this week as its proposals to permanently close a section of Bo’ness Road went before planners.
