A brave teenager put her cancer battle to one side for an unforgettable night in Glasgow and an onstage dance with her pop star hero Katy Perry.
Stenhousemuir girl Maurissa Clark (19), who is fighting Hodgkins lymphoma, was treated to an extra-special night at Glasgow’s SECC thanks to volunteer charity fundraiser Les Hoey - who organises dream excursions for sick youngsters.
The youngster said: “ I was told Les had arranged for a group of us to go to the SECC to see Katy Perry in concert.
‘‘Then, as a surprise, we were told we were going to meet her before the show.
“I was shocked, totally starstruck to see her just standing there with all her costumes - and her whole dressing room covered in sweets and candy floss.
‘‘She was really friendly. She said she liked my outfit and that it was a real pleasure to meet us.”
The fun did not end there - Katy asked Maurissa and her other guests if they would join her on the SECC stage to dance when she performed the Whitney Houston classic ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ in front of hundreds of fans.
“I didn’t even notice the crowd to be honest,” said Maurissa. “I had such a great time.”
The former St Mungo’s High School pupil is receiving chemotherapy at the Teenage Cancer Unit in Glasgow’s Beatson Hospital.
She said: “I’ve been sick for about three years and had to put going to university on hold for a bit. I plan to got to Glasgow next year to study to be a primary teacher.”
Luckily she managed to get a photo with Katy to prove to her future pupils she did actually meet the pop superstar.
