House destroyed after another fire in Denny

Fire crews were called out at around 9pm following reports of a fire in a roof space of a two-storey building in Carron Valley.

Station Manager Dave Wishart said: “Firefighters were deployed in strategic positions surrounding the building with high pressure jets and worked through the night to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

“Unfortunately the intensity of the fire meant the house was completely destroyed.”

Mr Wishart said the smoke alarm in the property could have saved the home owners’ lives after it alerted them, giving them time to escape the flames with their pet dog safely.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place today, but it is not believed to be suspicious.

It’s the third fire in the Denny area this year following two in the same building in Stirling Street on Wednesday, January 27 and Saturday, January 30.

In the latter fire, mum-of-three Jane Reilly lost her life, while the January 27 blaze was being treated as suspicious.

Mr Wishart warned of the importance of having a working smoke alarm fitted.

He said: “In the event of fire, a smoke alarm will alert you and give you time to react safely and it could save your life.

“Anyone who is worried a person they know may be at increased risk should put them in touch with us so that our firefighters can get them the support they need and help them stay safe in their homes.”
