Homeowners Helen and Terry noticed a colony of bees had set up camp in one of their chimneys and the couple contacted the Helix Beekeepers for advice on what to do.

Working with Adept Pest Control Ltd, the nest was safely removed and the bees unharmed.

John Stewart from the pest control company said: “Most people would just destroy the bees, however we are not just in the business of extermination but also prevention.”

The flying insects were smoked which subdues them as they surround their queen, meaning a professional could get near the chimney to cut the nest loose.

The Helix Beekeepers said: “Disturbing bees so close to winter is not advisable, let alone moving them. However the homeowners needed their blocked chimney to be in full use, so something had to be done.”
