High Street set for '˜ground breaking' festival tomorrow

Arts, science and technology will fuse into a family-friendly festival celebrating the Year of Young People in and around Falkirk High Street tomorrow.

Falkirk Delivers is hosting a range of events under the Regenerate banner, featuring activities ranging from silent cinemas to silent discos, gigs with 3D audio experiences, and DJ workshops offering a fusion of sound, music and performances.

Alex Fleming of Falkirk Delivers said: “After securing funding from Big Lottery for a Year of Young People programme we wanted to challenge the status quo that exists and spark a change with this event.

Regenerate is going to bring something different to the town centre that will show Falkirk is a forward thinking and innovative space for all ages and abilities.

“Working with with local companies we are delighted to showcase this free, family fun event and would encourage everyone to come along and join in.

Chris McCarron, from the group SoundSense said: “We wanted to create something where people can choose to discover new experiences, so we’ll be using a number of production techniques and systems to demonstrate the powerful impact music and changing technology have on our lives from a young age.

“We’re planning something everyone can get involved in and have some fun”.

The day’s activities, from noon till 6pm, feature new technologies that allow listeners to select from a range of sound and tactile options using wireless audio wearable and seatback devices that aim to create new and immersive 3D experiences.

Chris McCarron said: “The reason we’re displaying these technologies is to prove established event promoters and venues and celebrity artists have no excuses left.

“If a free public outdoor show in Falkirk can do it, then shows that are charging large sums of money to see big name acts can do it too, and we want the people of Falkirk to show support for equality, diversity and inclusion in the music industry.”

Regenerate takes place tomorrow in Falkirk High Street and Howgate Shopping Centre from noon, with venues across Falkirk set to support the event with evening activities.
