Help Anne’s mission to Romania

Falkirk Herald readers are being asked to back a woman’s mission to support the destitute, the dispossessed, and the desperate in Romania.

Anne Wilkinson, who formerly worked for Falkirk Pregnancy Service, visited the country in 2008 as a volunteer trainer with a charity dedicated to helping women who were pregnant, had recently had a child or suffered a miscarriage.

As a result of the squalor she saw, the realisation hit hard that she couldn’t walk away and do nothing.

After returning to the UK she started her one-woman campaign to collect baby clothing, powdered milk and nappies.

Anne, who lives in Linlithgow, told her story to our sister paper, the Journal & Gazette, who decided to support her by launching an appeal.

Anne dreamed of taking a van full of donations to Romania in September, however, as a result of the huge response to the coverage she has received, she is already close to filling that and is now considering arranging a second vehicle.

She said: “Never in my wildest dreams could I ever have envisaged that this appeal would have taken off like it has.

“It’s at times like this that you realise how generous people can be.”

If you would like to donate, items can be handed in to our office at Unit 4A, Gateway Business Park, Beancross Road, Grangemouth.
