Little Leon Waters was determined to make his arrival into the world in style – and managed almost without his mum knowing.
Michelle Hislop (25) was stunned to discover she was pregnant, but even more surprised that, instead of nine months, she only had four weeks until the birth.
She said: “I was not showing any signs of being pregnant. I had no morning sickness and previous tests had always shown a negative result.”
Michelle said she did have a small bump beginning to show and it was her mum who convinced her to take another test.
“When the test did finally show up positive I had no idea that just four weeks later I would be holding my baby boy in my arms,” she said.
On May 20 at noon, Michelle left for work at Tesco in Alloa and in no way was expecting to be heading to the delivery ward to give birth just three hours later.
She said: “I was at the pizza counter making food as normal when I started to get pains in my stomach.”
Michelle was rushed to the doctors where the mum-to-be was sent straight to Forth Valley Royal Hospital’s A&E unit.
After waiting ten minutes, Michelle was examined and was shocked to discover she was in the early stages of labour, so she was immediately admitted to the hospital’s labour ward.
She said: “There is worse news that could land on your doorstep so finding out the baby was coming was a surprise, but a really nice one.”
The family was trying urgently to contact dad-to-be Bryon Waters (30) who works at Falkirk Council.
Michelle said: “We had been trying to contact him for ages but were not having much success.
“When we eventually got in touch we did not think he would make it to the hospital in time.
“Luckily, however, Bryon made it with just ten minutes to spare and was there for the birth of his son.”
At 3.28pm little Leon John Waters was born weighing a healthy 7lbs 7oz.
And a month later the family are now settled at their home near Falkirk town centre.
Michelle said: “Leon is doing brilliantly. He is a happy child who is always smiling.”
She added: “I would just like to thank everyone who helped on the day.”
