Volunteers in a small community are helping to keep residents entertained and engaged.

Whitecross Power Station was established as a group in January 2014 after the original Whitecross Action Group disbanded.

The group received a grant from Coalfields Regeneration which has allowed them to completely revamp the centre into a modern space for the community to enjoy healthy and social activities.

Chairperson of the committee Elaine Kelso said: “We are always very busy with regulars but we are looking to have some new customers in 2015.

“Since the summer of 2014 a lot of work has been done on the back of the centre which was originally just a piece of waste ground. Grass was planted, decking was laid, electricity was fed into the large storage container which houses all the equipment for the various groups.

“We are planning events for the coming year and hope the villagers will continue to support us.”
