Caring for older members of our communities isn’t something that’s on everyone’s agenda, but it’s lifeblood of one group based in the Bainsford and Carron areas.

The Sofia Project (Sharing Opportunities Friendship Involvement & Activities) is a local charity serving the communities of Langlees, Bainsford and Newcarron and works alongside Age Scotland, CVS Falkirk and Falkirk council.

The group’s aim is to provide healthy activities for residents aged 55 and over and the partnership and its members consulted with older people to deliver the activities they want to do.

These include regular tea and lunch dances, bus trips, prize bingos, Scottish nights and its popular Christmas party but there are plans for a bigger range of activities this year after receiving a £10,000 funding grant from Awards for All.

The group is open to anyone in its age group, while volunteers are also welcome to go along and help out running the events and fundraising.
