Shieldhill Friday Club
Older people in the Braes village are enjoying the Shieldhill Friday Club which offers them a weekly lifeline to enjoy some company and activities to keep them active, as well as a wee bit of pampering.
There are around a dozen-strong members who attend the club every week to have a cup of tea and chat with villagers in the Community Wing in Main Street.
At the moment it’s mainly women who go along, but men are more than welcome.
Activities range from gentle exercise, bingo and guest speakers to manicures from beauty therapists.
There are also puzzles, birthday parties, annual bus trips and a weekly raffle with members bringing along a prize to the value of £1.
Speakers talk about a range of topics from the history archives of Callander House to police work from local officers, benefits, recycling, slide shows and points of general interest.
The oldest attendee is 93, but the group is not restricted to pensioners and transportation can be arranged for people with mobility problems.
