Grangemouth Stadium in line for makeover

Falkirk Community Trust announced the windfall today and revealed it will be used on internal upgrades.

The indoor track will be relaid, while the changing facilities and welcome area will be refurbished.

The award is the product of partnership working with Falkirk Community Trust, Falkirk Council, sportscotland and Scottish Athletics.

Consultation also took place with local clubs, community organisations and regular customers.

Ian Scott, chairman of Falkirk Community Trust said: “We are delighted to continue the development of Grangemouth Stadium after 2014’s work which included the relocation of the Hampden track from Glasgow 2014, as well as improvements to the long jump pit, high jump, hammer cage and shot circle.

“This facility truly is a centre of excellence for athletics and community sport in Central Scotland and we hope to see many more people using the improved facilities both in and outdoors.”

Stewart Harris, sportscotland chief executive, said: “At sportscotland we aspire to provide more and better sporting opportunities for people in Scotland. It is by working together with our partners, as we have done here at Grangemouth Stadium, that we really can deliver on those aspirations.

“We want everyone in Scotland to have a positive experience in sport, whatever their level. That’s why we were delighted to invest £350,000 in the continued improvement of the facilities at Grangemouth Stadium to meet the needs of the schools, clubs and communities, and performance athletes who call this their home.”

The work will be carried out in three stages and should be completed by October 2016
