The Falkirk Herald Salon of the Year may have won the competition at their first attempt but they won’t let success go to their heads.
When Beau Chic, in Union Road, Grangemouth, was announced as top of the crops for 2015, owner Julie McGregor was a little surprised to say the least.
“I was screaming down the phone for ten minutes,” said the 27-year-old from Stenhousemuir. “This is the first competition we have ever entered. We didn’t even know we were in the running at first.
“We are such a small salon and there were much bigger salons in the competition, we thought we didn’t really have much of a chance.”
Hairdresser Julie started Beau Chic three years ago with best pal Linzi Orr (30) and the pair assembled a small team of talented - and now award-winning - staff.
Julie said: “Linzi and I met eight years ago when we were both working at Renella.
“We decided to venture out on our own. We spent weeks looking for just the right name for the business.
“We wanted to have a French theme, but couldn’t agree on anything.”
They are now a name to be reckoned with and Julie, Linzi and the gang - wig specialist Lynne Dougall, trainee Joe Burt and regional training assessor Danielle Mullen - are looking to build upon their success.
“We have amazing, loyal clients - the best you could ask for,” said Julie. “And we do our best for them, specialising in colouring, cutting and hair extensions.” The Falkirk Herald Salon of the Year competition was launched in June and had a great response from the local hairdressing industry, with votes aplenty coming from respective customers.
Herald readers were asked to vote on a trimmed down list of nominations and the most popular salon was picked.
