Grangemouth pupils breaking down barriers

Grangemouth High pupils took part in a youth summit for a Special Olympics campaign to create a global movement to break down barriers for young people with learning difficulties.

The event at Tollcross International swimming centre last Thursday is one of eight that took place across the country as part of Play Unified, a Special Olympics GB campaign in partnership with charity Youth Sport Trust.

The campaign intends will help youngsters with learning disabilities gain knowledge on sport and leadership skills to change stereotypical attitudes and perceptions towards them.

CEO of Special Olympics GB Karen Wallin said: “Play Unified is a global Special Olympics campaign aimed at breaking down the barriers and misconceptions towards people with intellectual disabilities.

“People with intellectual disabilities say they want to be included as equals in society. The Unified Generation will lead our movement and will do so by simply playing unified.”
