According to Shelter Scotland, 100,000 children across Britain – almost 5000 of them in Scotland – will go to bed this Christmas Eve without a place to call home.

Launching ‘baffie day’ – Friday, December 4 – Gok Wan and the charity hope to raise awareness and funds to help those facing the human tragedy of homelessness.

Anyone can support ‘‘Slippers for Shelter’’, part of Shelter Scotland’s emergency Christmas appeal, in three simple steps:

Wear your baffies into work, school or even to the shops;

Donate just £3 to Shelter Scotland; and

Take a slipper/baffie selfie to share on social media with #baffiesforshelter.

Gok Wan said: ‘‘Just a little bit can go a long way towards helping the thousands of children who will be waking up homeless this Christmas.

‘‘That’s why I’m putting my best foot forward and taking a slipper selfie, to support Slippers for Shelter.

‘‘It’s easy – simply wear your finest, furriest slippers into work, school or even down to the shops, donate £3 to Shelter, and share your very own slipper selfie on social media with the hashtag #baffiesforshelter

“Not only will your feet be comfy and cosy all day, you’ll be helping a great cause too.”

Alison Watson, deputy director of Shelter Scotland, said: ‘‘Not a single child should be homeless, especially at Christmas, so the fact that in 21st Century Scotland nearly 5000 children will wake up without a home on Christmas Day just goes to show the devastating depths our housing crisis has reached.

“We urge the public to get behind this campaign.’’
