Future of M&S and BHS in Falkirk not clear

One major retailer in Falkirk is remaining ‘coy’ about possibly moving part of its operation – while the future of another is still in doubt.

High Street giants M&S are rumoured to be ready to switch its food hall to the Central Retail Park.

Owners Hammerson have confirmed unit 11 in phase two of the Grahams Road shopping complex is already “under offer” to M&S Simply Food.

But M&S refuse to say if a move is on the cards.

A spokesperson insisted: “We are always looking for new store locations so we can best serve our customers. Whilst we are interested in the Falkirk area, we have no further details at the moment.”

Meantime, the new owners of the BHS department store chain which has an outlet in the east end of the town, have still to confirm if it will be one of 40 they plan to close to save money.

A spokesman for investment group Retail Acquisition who bought BHS from Top Shop boss Sir Philip Green for £1 said the shops under threat will stay open until at least the end of the year.
