An empty bank has been given a new lease of life - as a bookies.

Betting shop giant Ladbrokes has taken a lease on the former Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Falkirk High Street and has already applied to Falkirk Council for an operating licence.

The company intends to spend over £180,000 refurbishing the premises and when it opens create around four permanent jobs.

Company spokesman Richard Royal said: “We site shops where there is consumer demand. Providing different brands on the high street is in keeping with one of the original aims of the Gambling Act to enhance consumer choice and competition.”

There will now be five bookmakers in the area, William Hill in Kirk Wynd and Labrokes, BetFred and Coral in Manor Street.
