Bank staff hope to cash in on people’s generosity to raise funds for a vital Falkirk charity.

Employees of Royal Bank of Scotland Business Banking have a series of fundraising events planned throughout September.

All money raised will go to Falkirk Foodbank. They hope their efforts will bring in enough to buy a much-needed additional vehicle for the charity which supplies food parcels to individuals and families in crisis.

Only set up at the end of last year, the foodbank has already provided hundreds of boxes to those who otherwise would have gone hungry.

Alan Smart, RBS director of business banking for Central Scotland CBC, said all the staff were behind the project.

He said: “Falkirk Foodbank is an incredibly worthwhile charity. It’s sometimes hard to comprehend that in this day and age there are people, who without their help, would go to bed hungry.

“The work that Alf Collington and his team do is phenomenal. We are delighted to be doing our bit to support them.”

Alan was so impressed with the commitment of Falkirk Foodbank project manager Alf Collington that he nominated him for an STV Real Heroes Award.

Out of 800 entries, he has made the final 30 and last week a camera crew was out at the foodbank’s base in Tamfourhill Industrial Estate to film his work and that of the many other volunteers. It is due to be broadcast later this month or in early October.

The events being planned by staff based at the RBS office in Beancross Road, Grangemouth, are varied.

They include a Ladies-only ‘Swish’ Night in Grangemouth at 7.30 p.m. next Thursday, September 12. Organised by Janice Cunningham and Natasha Reynolds, you pay £10 to bring along five items of unwanted clothing to swap.

A car boot sale takes place in the Dobbie Hall, Larbert, on Wednesday, September 18 from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The same day a charity football match takes place at Little Kerse, Grangemouth while a Race Night is planned for Friday, September 27, at 7.30 p.m. in Grangemouth’s Abbotsinch. Cost is £5 to include a buffet and disco.
