Firefighters tackle '˜intense' blaze in Denny house

Due to the extent of the damage surrounding roads at Stirling Street are expected to be closed off for the rest of the day after the fire which broke out around 10.35pm in a house last night.

Firefighters were alerted by a 999 call following reports of smoke in the house and tackled the flames with using two high pressure jets as well as a thermal imaging camera.

It took until the hours of this morning to get the blaze fully under control.

Those in the house managed to get safely and no one was injured.

Group Manager David Farries, the incident commander, said: “This was a well developed fire within the roof-space and we committed four firefighters in breathing apparatus who successfully brought it under control.

“Our crews stripped away exterior roof tiles and used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hidden hot spots, which confirmed the fire was fully extinguished.”

An investigation is taking place to establish the cause of the fire.

Police say the fire is not thought to be suspicious and officers will be in attendance throughout the day managing the road closures to the A872, Stirling Street between its junction with Barnego Road and Nethermains Road.

A police spokesperson said: “The road is expected to be closed for the rest of the day while fire crews are in attendance.

“It is anticipated this will cause some disruption to local journeys. Drivers are thanked for their patience.

“Pedestrians can still use the pathways but drivers are advised to seek another route until the local authority and emergency services ensure the safety of the damaged building.

“Parents of children at Dunipace Primary School are being informed.”
