A major search operation was launched yesterday after an upturned canoe was spotted on the River Carron near Denny.
Police and fire officers spent several hours checking the river, which is a popular destination for watersport enthusiasts, after the unattended vessel was reported by a member of the public.
A black and white slalom canoe was subsequently recovered from the river.
Its owner was subsequently traced safe and well.
There are unconfirmed reports that the boat had been stolen several months previously and subsequently dumped.
A police spokeswoman said: “Following a report of an upturned canoe on the River Carron this morning at Denny, police have carried out searches of the area in conjunction with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“Following contact from members of the public in response to social media posts, police have located the owner of the canoe, they are safe and well and were never in the water.
“Police would like to thank their emergency services colleagues and the public for their assistance with this matter.”
