The Falkirk Wheel will be lit up in red for a week for this year’s Scottish Poppy Appeal.
Poppyscotland has also introduced the theme, Donate Like You Mean It, for the 2015 appeal and wants people to take a video or a selfie at the landmark and share it on social media to support the campaign which supports the Armed Forces community.
The wheel will be the colour red in the evenings from Thursday, November 5-11.
Poppyscotland’s head of fundraising Colin Flinn said: “We are delighted that the Falkirk Wheel will be lit up in red for the first time for the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
“We believe it will look stunning and we hope that when people see it they will think about what the poppy means to them and then donate like they mean it so that we can raise even more money to continue our life-changing work.”
People can support the 2015 Appeal by taking a video or photo selfie using the hashtag #MyPoppyMeans and sharing on social media then donating by putting money in the poppy tins, texting POPPY to 70800 to give £3
Donations can also be made online at www. poppyscotland.org.uk.
Richard Millar, director of heritage, enterprise and sustainability at Scottish Canals, said: “We are proud to be able to support the important work carried out by Poppyscotland.
“Lighting up The Falkirk Wheel along with other renowned Scottish landmarks will raise awareness of the charity and the sacrifice made by our service men and women.”
