The iconic Falkirk Wheel is currently undergoing its annual ‘MOT’ in preparation for some festive fun.
By all reports the 11-year-old mechanical marvel is in tip-top condition and the work being carried out is nothing more than routine maintenance to get the Wheel ready for the popular Santa boat rides and for visitors coming to the area next season.
Scottish Canals’ engineering teams are carrying out an extensive programme of maintenance and improvements covering everything from the Wheel’s mechanical systems and water pumps to its computer programmes.
In order to allow this work to take place The Wheel will be closed until Friday, November 29, with boat trips starting up again from Saturday, November 30.
The Wheel’s visitor centre, cafe and gift shop are open as usual over the period.
