Police issued a series of travel alerts this morning after the unseasonal weather struck in mainly eastern areas, including Aberdeenshire, Fife, the Borders and into Edinburgh.

The Met Office also has a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for snow in place, with forecasters expecting accumulations of 5-10cm above 330 feet, with 15cm or more possible above 656 feet.

A mix of rain and snow is expected at lower levels and near coasts, but again these are restricted to the south, east and north-east of Scotland.

The Met Office says the situation remains under review but even if it proves correct it doesn’t mean the Falkirk area will be enjoying a great weekend.

While there may be some bright spells today, showers are expected throughout Saturday and Sunday.
