Women are being asked to pull on their trainers and clock up a few miles - and lots of money - for Cancer Research UK.

Entries for the 2014 Race for Life are now open, and fundraising females are already signing up to take part.

The fun-filled annual event takes place on Sunday, June 8 in Callendar Park with women being asked to walk, jog, or run 5K to raise money for research vital to beating cancer.

Last year’s event attracted over 2000 women who raised a staggering £116,000 between them.

It’s a target that organisers hope can be reached again in 2014.

Cara Inglis, Race for Life events manager for Scotland, said: “Race for Life events are not competitive.

“They are not about being fit or fast.

“Some women might worry about standing alongside runners decked out in lycra but nothing could be further from the truth.

“Participants of all shapes, sizes and ages generate an electric energy as they unite in their determination to defeat cancer.”

And if pounding the streets doesn’t appeal, organisers are also calling for 45 volunteers - men or women - to help make sure the event runs smoothly.
