Michael Matheson has been promoted to Cabinet Secretary for Justice as part of Nicola Sturgeon’s new Scottish Government team.
The reshuffle by the recently appointed First Minister was announced at noon today.
The Falkirk West MSP was previously minister for public health in Alex Salmond’s cabinet.
Mr Matheson (44) was elected as the MSP for Falkirk West following the May 2007 elections. Previous to that he was a Regional MSP for Central Scotland from 1999-2007.
Before entering politics full-time he was an occupational therapist.
The new Cabinet is: Deputy First Minister - John Swinney; Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure - Keith Brown; Cabinet Secretary for Fair Work, Skills and Training - Roseanna Cunningham; Cabinet Secretary for Education - Angela Constance;
Cabinet Secretary for Health - Shona Robison; Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice - Alex Neil; Cabinet Secretary for Justice - Michael Matheson; Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs - Richard Lochhead; and Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Europe and External Affairs - Fiona Hyslop.
