That represents an astonishing increase of 154 per cent on 2014, which goes to show just how popular local news still is.

And what about the stories themselves?

Again the numbers tell their own tale.

Pages on our site were viewed nearly five million times. That compares with 2,024,548 in the previous 12 months – another whopping increase of more than 145 per cent.

Topping the most read list of the year the story of a body being found in the hunt for a missing man, closely followed by a report of the air ambulance being called to a incident at a Grangemouth block of flats.

Social media also plays an important role in our online coverage with more than 10,000 people following our news and sport Twitter accounts and 16,500 readers liking our regularly updated Facebook page.
