A judging panel of 25 leading media figures and former editors, which for the first time in the competition’s history had a majority of female members, whittled down the final selections for the category.

We will be up against sister title Fife Free Press, The Inverness Courier, Kilmarnock Standard, Highland News and Ayrshire Post at the Scottish Newspaper Society event, which will be the 38th Scottish Press Awards.

The Falkirk Herald has won the prestigious award three times so far and we’re hoping to scoop the title again at the awards ceremony in Glasgow’s Radisson BLU Hotel on May 11 where the winners in all categories will be announced.

Director of the Scottish Newspaper Society John McLellan said: “An impressive depth of coverage was maintained in all the shortlisted titles, once again demonstrating their total commitment to, and celebration of, their communities.”

The 38th Scottish Press Awards sees the introduction of a number of new categories including ‘digital team of the year’ and ‘outstanding digital journalist’ to recognise the continued expansion and development of digital news publishing on all platforms.
