After Police Scotland announced in 2013 it was scrapping its traffic warden service to save money, the council agreed a deal with the local area commander and Stirling Council to retain some traffic warden presence in the town centre.

Because the remaining traffic wardens have now decided to leave Police Scotland, that arrangement will be terminated on March 31- clearing the way for the introduction of a decriminalised parking enforcement (DPE) scheme.

The Executive was told that until DPE is in place, breaches of on street parking regulations will remain criminal offences with the police responsible for taking enforcement action.

A business case for DPE will now be considered by the council’s scrutiny committee.
