Falkirk Council is changing the charges for its empty car park at the municipal buildings.

Charges were introduced for the unregulated West Bridge Street car park last November and the once packed location became empty overnight.

Members of the council’s executive committee admitted at a meeting on Tuesday that things had not gone as they had hoped.

Councillor Robert Spears said: “When is a car park not a car park? When there are no cars in it.”

Councillor Craig R Martin said: “We introduced the charges to help fund our budget gap and improve safety in the car park. One thing has been achieved and one has not.”

Members agreed to change the tariff structure at West Bridge Street to a two tier short stay and long stay car park.
