Emergency services heroes save child stranded on Bo'ness 'island'

Firefighters took to boats to rescue a young child who got into difficulty in the water near the foreshore at Bo’ness.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.46pm on Sunday, January 31 to reports of a child casualty in the water. Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and two water rescue teams to the foreshore area of Bo’ness.

“Firefighters located the casualty on a small island and reached them by boat before transferring them to the care of Scottish Ambulance Service partners.”

An RNLI Queensferry spokesperson added: “The Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was launched and made best speed to the scene, where Scottish Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS), Scottish Ambulance Service and their Special Operations Response Team, Police Scotland and local Coastguard teams from South Queensferry, Fisherrow and Kinghorn were in also in attendance.

“The casualty was located in an area inaccessible to the lifeboat and was assisted to safety by SFRS.”
