Engineers from Scottish Power Energy Networks worked through challenging weather conditions to repair a power outage in Airth yesterday afternoon when the strong winds of Storm Francis brought down a large tree.

The trunk fell through overhead electricity cables, knocking out the power supply for around 1000 customers – including Airth Castle Hotel and several local businesses.

An SP Energy spokesperson said: “Specialist engineers attended the scene and were able to reconnect those affected within the hour. SP Energy Networks apologise for any inconvenience this outage may have caused as Storm Francis brought strong gusts of winds and heavy rain to parts of the central belt.”
