EE customer Jim Beattie has had no signal for over two weeks. He said this kind of problem could have real implications for people with health and mobility issues who depend on their phone.

He said: “This is terrible service from a company caring more about limiting bad exposure than letting the customers know what is going on.

“I can’t even complain about it because the phone doesn’t work and the whole complaints service is built around using the phone in question.

“If people don’t pay their bill they soon know about it, but it’s ok for the service to be out for up to six weeks and the customers just have to accept it.”

Staff at the EE store in the Howgate told customers they were aware of an ongoing issue and that engineers were working to fix it.

An EE spokeswoman said a small area around the shopping centre was affected with signal problems and apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers but confirmed the problem had been resolved.

She said: “If any customers are experiencing difficulties connecting to the network we recommend either restarting the device or turning airplane mode on and off, as this should trigger re-connection.

“We are of course still more than happy to investigate any issues specific customers are experiencing if they are still struggling to connect to the network after trying the above, we’d simply need their mobile number.”

She said anyone wishing to discuss their bill due to lack of service, should contact customer services.
