New project helps young people in Falkirk district find work

A programme launched to support young job hunters with learning disabilities in Falkirk district find work has officially begun.

Project SEARCH — a partnership between Forth Valley College, NHS Forth Valley, SERCO, Falkirk Employment and Training Unit and Skills Development Scotland — got under way on Monday, August 27.

Based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, its aim is to help a group of 11 interns aged 18 to 24 acquire the skills needed across a range of roles through on-site work experience from lecturers, job coaches, staff and supervisors.

Charlotte Laidlaw (18), who is participarting in the project, said: “I am very excited about starting this course and even though I have only been here for a few days, I am really enjoying it.

“I hope to have more experiences which will lead me to securing a job at the end of it.”
