Duke of Edinburgh awards for students

A group of Workstart students completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award recently and were presented with their certificates at the Falkirk Campus.

The group of six from the Department of Access and Progression – who are all from the Falkirk and Bo’ness area - worked for six months on the initiative which included volunteering at Muiravonside Country Park and three months of physical activity (sport or fitness) in the college. Five of the group also undertook construction (painting and decorating or Bricklaying) classes, while one decided to do cookery for their skills section.

Lecturer Marguerite McCreath, said: “I am very proud of them all. They have been wonderful and thoroughly deserve their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. The qualifier expedition saw them walk from Drymen to Cashel Campsite near Balmaha on Loch Lomond. They camped there overnight and then walked back to Balmaha along the West Highland Way. A big well done to them all.”
