But Laura Snedden didn’t just hold her hand – she helped deliver little Kaira when she decided to arrive in a hurry.

Emma (23) was at home with partner Jordan McEwan (23) and her son, three-year-old Kalvin, when she went into labour early on January 21.

She said: “Jordan had just left to take Kalvin to my mum’s in Denny when the contractions started coming quickly.

“I tried phoning Laura but when she didn’t reply I phoned for an ambulance.”

The 999 call handler kept a nervous Emma talking and told her although help was on the way, to get some towels ready.

Emma added: “I got myself into the hall and kept calling Laura because I was terrified of being on my own.”

The pair have been friends from school days at Denny High and Laura (23) also lives in Ashley Street, Bonnybridge.

When she finally noticed 18 missed calls on her phone she knew something was wrong and contacted her friend.

Laura said: “I dashed round and found Emma on her hands and knees and screaming. The woman on the phone told me what to do and when to tell her to push.

“She told me to support the baby’s head and shoulders before the final push and within two minutes she was born.

“I tried to stay calm but I was an emotional wreck.”

Moments after little Kaira was born at 9.20am and weighing 5lb 12oz paramedics arrived at the flat to take mum and baby to hospital for a check-up.

But not before new dad Jordan arrived back to find he had missed the birth by minutes.

Emma said: “He had got stuck at traffic lights in Denny or he would have been there in time.

“We never imagined it would all happen so quickly. But I’ll always be grateful that Laura was by my side.”
