Don't be bored, get on board with Falkirk CVS

CVS Falkirk has organised an information event for people looking to become charity board members later this month.

Attendees will learn about the eligibility requirements and the process of becoming a charity board member, as well as being able to put questions to the speakers during a Q&A session.

The organisation say anyone can be on a board. You don’t need skills or qualifications in some cases, but most people don’t give it a second as they believe it is something that is out of their reach.

CVS chief executive Karen Herbert is also concerned that with no support for local groups, some could fold at a time when more volunteers are desperately needed.

Karen said: “It really can be anybody, but most people don’t think they can be on a board or a committee.

“It’s really just helping to govern the organisation and help define where it’s going. We want people who have never been part of the third sector to come along and take a look at the opportunities available to them.

“In the past health groups have disintegrated because the people on them had the conditions themselves and struggled to keep the groups going. As health groups move more towards the third sector for care, we will need an increasing amount of people who can help deliver this on the boards.”

The event is taking place at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel and Spa in Polmont on January 21 from 6.30-9.30pm.
